Privacy policy

C4U NZ (“we”, “us”) is a registered motor vehicle trader operating CAR4U. We are bound by the Privacy Act 2020 and the information privacy principles it sets out. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Information we collect

We collect personal information you give us directly, including:

• Enquiries and test drives - your name, email address, phone number, the vehicle you are interested in and anything you tell us in your message.
• Trade-in appraisals - details of your current vehicle, including make, model, year, odometer reading, registration and condition.
• Finance applications - the information a lender requires to assess an application: your date of birth, driver licence details, residential and employment history, income, expenses and existing debts.
• Website use - your IP address and browser type, recorded with form submissions to help us prevent spam and abuse.

You do not have to give us this information, but without it we may not be able to answer your enquiry, value your trade-in or submit a finance application for you.

How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

• respond to your enquiry and arrange test drives, delivery or servicing;
• appraise a vehicle you want to trade in;
• prepare and submit a finance application to lenders on your behalf, where you have asked us to;
• meet our obligations under the Motor Vehicle Sales Act 2003 and related law; and
• keep records of vehicles sold, including the buyer details required for change of ownership.

We will only send you marketing if you have agreed to receive it, and every marketing message includes a way to unsubscribe.

Who we share it with

We may share your information with:

• Finance and insurance providers - where you ask us to arrange finance or insurance, we pass your application to the lenders or insurers we work with so they can assess it.
• Credit reporting agencies - lenders assessing your application will usually obtain a credit report about you. Submitting a finance application through this website authorises those checks.
• Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency - to complete change of ownership and other statutory registration requirements.
• Service providers - the companies that host this website, store our images and deliver our email, who may process information outside New Zealand.
• Anyone else where you have authorised it, or where we are required or permitted by law.

We do not sell your personal information.

Storage and retention

Your information is held in secure systems with access limited to staff who need it. We keep it only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or for as long as the law requires - sales and finance records are generally kept for at least seven years.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Contact us using the details below and we will respond within 20 working days. There is no charge to make a request.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Cookies

This website uses only the cookies needed for it to function and to keep your session secure. We do not use them to build advertising profiles.
